Use Your Powerful Story

“Tell me the facts and I’ll learn. Tell me the truth and I’ll believe. But tell me a story and it will live in my heart forever.” An old Native American proverb.

While we are all part of the human race, we all have individual characteristics unique to us. It’s not just our physical differences, every one of us has a story, our story of meeting challenges, overcoming hardship, lost faith, and regained strength. I didn’t learn the value of my story until I began sharing it with audiences. As a financial expert, I deal in facts and figures, however once I started sharing my story and hearing other’s stories, I began to build relationships, not just a provider/client interaction.

The same goes with speaking to groups. I give many presentations on understanding credit, basic finances and more. It would be easy to stand in front of them and present a bunch of numbers, and regardless of how valuable I think that information is, the audience is thinking… “Why should I be listening to you? You look successful enough, I can’t do what you do,” or the worst… “this is boring.”

Losing the engagement of your audience not only affects them, it does to you as a speaker. Doubt and frustration can seep in… “I’m not good at this, I’m just a numbers guy, I can’t motivate or inspire people.”

But you know what? I certainly can motivate, educate, and inspire, and it happens best when I share my story. I see it in the members of BeMen- men who are stepping up to motivate, educate, and inspire others. Our first step is sharing our stories in a collaborative book. Our working title is “Transformed, 8 Powerful Stories of Men Changed by God.”

The excitement builds as we move into the final phases of production; cover design, a final edit and prep for printing. It’s not just excitement about finishing a project or becoming a published author for these guys, it’s excitement to see how candidly sharing their experiences will be used to reach a hurting soul in search of answers.

Our target release date is coming soon. Watch us for the formal announcement and if you feel the nudge to share your story in order to help others, then consider joining us at BeMen and our mission of empowering men in faith, leadership, community and homes.
